As the antcipation builds for the 40th Annual Snake Saturday Parade and Festival, we take a trip down memory lane with Mickey Finn’s Irish Dream – Celebrating 40 years! The parade and festival started on the streets of North Kansas City in 1984 and continues on March 16, 2024.
What started as a marketing strategy for Rodeway Inn has turned into the largest Irish parade and festival in the region, all with a mission to support charities.
A dream became reality! A dream of a festival for family fun with free entertainment for the children. A dream of an event that families return to year after year. A dream of an event that captures the city of North Kansas City in all its glory. A dream of giving away funds to charities. To date. local charities have received over $1.8 million in funds due to the sponsorship commitments of local North Kansas City businesses and our title sponsor since 1989, North Kansas City Hospital. Yes, it was Mickey Finn’s dream 40 years ago, but it has become the dream of the community and everyone who participates!
Over the past 39 years, other events have become a part of Snake Saturday. The Grand Marshal Emerald Hooley (Celebration) will be held the evening of March 7, 2024, at Harrah’s Voodoo Lounge. The Lad and Lassie contest for ages 2-7 will be at the NKC Parks and Recreation building on March 9, 2024. The Charity Cookoff is March 15, 2024, at the festival grounds and of course the parade and festival will be on March 16, 2024. (Information about all of the events can be found on our website)
