During the North Kansas City Council Meeting on November 5, 2019, Mayor Don Stielow proclaimed each Friday before the annual Snake Saturday Parade and Festival as Green Friday.  “Wearing green on this special day allows North Kansas City businesses, their employees and customers to be a part the Snake Saturday festivities. In fact, the idea originated from Country Club bank’s suggestion,” said J.D. Green,  President of Northland Festivals, the organization which produces the Snake Saturday Parade and Festival. “Many North Kansas City businesses are not open on the weekends and until now, haven’t had an official opportunity to participate in the fun,” Green noted.

The design for the 2020 Snake Saturday T-Shirts will be determined in a design competition of North Kansas City School District Art Students.   Participating retailers will sell themed T-Shirts leading up to the Festival weekend, culminating March 13, 2020 with Green Friday and the annual Charity Cook-off that evening.  The Parade and Festival will follow the next morning, March 14, 2020. The annual Grand Marshal Celebration, where the 2020 Grand Marshal is officially announced, will be held March 5, 2020 at Harrah’s North Kansas City Convention Center. The traditional Lad and Lassies contest will be March 7, 2020 at the North Kansas City Park and Recreation Center.

The 2020 Snake Saturday Festival and Parade theme is “Shamrock Shindig.” Planning and committee meetings are scheduled to continue through early March. Online registration for Parade entries, Festival concessions and booths, Lad and Lassies and tickets to The Grand Marshal Celebration are available at www.snakesaturday.com. Themed T-shirts are also available to purchase on the event website. Retailers interested in selling t-shirts should contact the Northland Festivals office, 816-548-3111.
